How to Install a Kitchen Sink P Trap

There are several steps involved in installing a kitchen sink p trap. The most important step is to identify which drain to connect the trap to. It is possible to cut the waste arm to the proper length or buy one that comes with an extra length. Then, you need to connect the tailpiece of the trap to the final drain pipe. Lastly, you need to tighten the slip nuts. If you have any trouble, you can use channel-type pliers to tighten them.

First, measure the distance from the floor to the trap arm. This will tell you the height of the trap arm. The trap arm is the horizontal pipework beneath the sink. Its slope should be angled toward the wall outlet or branch drain. This measurement is important to ensure that you have a proper fit.

After measuring the distance, tighten the slip nuts. You should not overtighten them, but you should tighten them with a wrench. Once you are done, turn the sink on to check if the p-trap is installed correctly. If it is not, you might have a leak.
